ABOUT Lon Kieffer

Lon Kieffer is not only an RN and an internationally known Motivational Speaker, “EnterTrainer”, Author and Consultant of Common Sense, he is, first and foremost; a Caregiver!
Lon learned his “Get Out of Bed and Go to Work!” philosophy from working with Nurses in a Nursing Home. After working with an amazing group of Caregiver’s he developed further honed his “Love, Laugh and Learn” viewpoint into his own brand and “EnterTraining” style of speaking.
This website is dedicated to “Defending the Caregiver!” his one-man dramatic-comedy originally conceived as a show/play (also available as a traditional lecture) that highlights the personality traits of those that seek, or accept, the role of Caregiver and the harsh (but not always tragic and sometimes funny) realities of this role.
During a presentation of “Defending the Caregiver!” Lon asks you to sit back and “Laugh and Learn” as he and his alter ego “DOC” (the “Defender Of Caregivers!” – see below) interact with one another to “EnterTrain” their fellow Caregivers.
It is Lon’s hope that by increasing the awareness of the difficulties of the role of Caregiver, the personality traits that make them both perfect for the job AND prone to the often debilitating aspects of this role– Lon hopes to help the Caregiver not only survive, but to and thrive and to see his or her role as a Blessing, rather than Depressing!

Meet DOC – the “Defender Of Caregivers!”
DOC, the symbolic alter ego of Lon Kieffer and mascot of “Defender of Caregivers!” is the leader of the pack. You can join the pack at Facebook.
DOC can do and say things to and for his Caregivers that a real live human cannot do or say!
Most importantly, DOC is not human!
This is very important! If DOC were human his Caregivers would be likely to try and take care of him!
Since DOC is a Bear… he can take care of his Caregivers!
DOC can give his Caregivers advice; DOC can fight for them; laugh with them (even laugh at them); cry for them and just be himself with and FOR THEM, his Caregivers!
DOC’s most important role in life is to help his Caregivers see and avoid the over utilization of “Cognitive Distortions” as identified by David Burns, MD.
DOC can help by encouraging you to see things as they are by asking (yes, you guessed it); “What’s up DOC?”
He can offer DOC’s Orders on a STAT, Daily or PRN basis and frequency. All of DOC’s Orders have a duration of: Until Effective. His sincere hope is that his orders will become habit forming!
There are several versions of DOC (and others evolving all the time).
You have already met “Super DOC!” who is supremely confident and always willing to help his Caregivers. He was originally described as; “a cross between Winnie the Pooh and Yogi the Bear but with Underdog’s Attitude (yes, a DOG, not a DOC) that makes him believe he can help everybody even though, in reality, he can’t. Bu he sure will try!”
When Lon originally described DOC to Cartoonist Greg Cravens http://www.cravenscartoon.com/ this is what he drew.
The amazing thing about this drawing is that Lon and Greg have never met; they have no idea what the other looks like and Greg had never seen this picture:
This is the picture Lon was using on his print media to promote his speaking business. At the point of retaining Greg to do these drawings Lon was seriously considering stopping the “Defender of Caregivers!” project due to costs, schedule and family conflicts. Upon seeing Greg’s original drawing of DOC, Lon immediately knew he needed to push forward.
Later DOC went through a few modifications where he was tweaked a bit to re-design the Hearts-Eye Logo, and was “hard lined” for re-production purposes and ended up looking like this: Typical DOC
There is also… Angry DOC in full-blown “Defender” mode….
And, alas, there is also, Depleted DOC, who is rarely seen publicly but lurks beneath the surface hiding behind a smile and a tough guy exterior only showing himself when he has not benefitted from his own self-defense(s) or when he has failed to accept or recognize that there are other’s that are willing to DEFEND him… meet “Depleted DOC”
Hopefully, we will not see much of this guy here at “Defender Of Caregivers!”
Thanks for listening to the story of DOC, and thanks for Caring!

coming soon...
